Notch Encourages Minecraft Piracy of the Day: If you don’t want to pay $27 for Minecraft, you can just go ahead and pirate it. The game’s creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, doesn’t mind, and you can just pay him later.

Earlier today, a broke gamer asked Notch (via Twitter) if he could have a free account “before piracy.” Instead of getting angry at someone planning to steal his game, Notch just said, “Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don’t forget to feel bad.”

Sure, that opens the door for widespread Minecraft theft — as long as you feel bad, that is — but the people who take advantage of the offer were going to pirate the game anyway. As long as a handful of them actually do loveMinecraft and pay up later, it’s a win for Notch.
